Introduction
The best known tequila drink is the margarita, and that among others will be covered here. Also, there are some general guidelines to follow that will make all of your tequila drinks taste great. Tequila may not be known for its flavor, but high-quality tequilas are actually savored by connoisseurs, much like top-shelf whiskeys, or even fine wines
How to Make a Brave Bull
Step 1: The Basics
Tequila tastes best with citrus or other tangy fruit flavors. If you have juices such as orange, grapefruit or pineapple, you can use one or a combination to cut through the strong flavor of the alcohol. A squeeze of lime or lemon juice can go a long way in enhancing flavor, as well. Sweet and sour mix is also excellent for those who prefer a sweeter taste. As a general rule, every shot of tequila requires 3-4 ounces of mixer.
- To really make your drinks taste good, shake them thoroughly in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Once you see a good foam on top, you have shaken well. You can then strain for a shot or martini, or pour entire contents into a glass for an "on the rocks" drink.
Step 2: Margaritas
To make a margarita, pour a shot of tequila into an ice-filled shaker. Then add 1/2 ounce triple-sec, 2 ounces of sweet and sour mix, 1/4 ounce of sweetened lime juice, and a good squeeze or two of fresh lime. You can also add a dash of orange juice or Sprite to mellow it, if you wish. Shake well and pour into a glass. Garnish with a wedge of lime.
- For a frozen margarita, fill the glass you will be drinking from with ice, and then all other ingredients. Pour into a blender and blend until you reach the desired consistency. Return to glass and garnish with lime.
Step 3: Tequila Sunrise
This one's super-easy, and tastes phenomenal. Just pour a shot of tequila into an ice-filled glass. Fill with orange juice, and then float a squeeze of grenadine over the top to achieve the sunrise effect. Garnish with lime and/or cherry.
