The mayonnaise is seasoned with vinegar and black pepper and combined with hardboiled egg, onion, and chopped gherkin pickles.

Step 2: How to Make Tartar Sauce
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
- Mix well to combine.

- Substitute sour cream or creme fresh for the mayonnaise.
- Substitute minced chives for the onion, and add 2 tablespoons chopped parsley and 1 tablespoon fresh tarragon.
