How to Make and Decorate a Spritz So Much Fun by Wilton

Wilton, the cake decorating equipment manufacturer, has produced this video which demonstrates how to use a cookie press to make spritz cookies. The expert provides advice and observations such as the fact that your first cookie or two probably won't come out well, and that cookies that don't press correctly can be reloaded in to the press.

- What is Christmas without tins full of lovingly-decorated cookies? If you think about it, cookies are downright necessary when it comes to celebrating Christmas. After all, Santa's got to have something to eat when he pops by on Christmas Eve.

Spritz cookies are a seasonal treat. They are essentially butter or sugar cookies put through a cookie press. Spritz cookies are quite easy to make and, thanks to your handy cookie press, can take on any number of whimsical shapes.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In the bowl of a heavy duty mixer, beat the butter and sugar.
Stir in the the flour, salt, egg and vanilla extract.
Stir in a few drops of food coloring if desired.
Place dough in cookie press.
Squeeze cookie press to form the desired shapes on the cookie sheet.
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 5 to 8 minutes.
- The cookies are done with the edges start to brown.
Remove the cookies from the oven.
Cool on a rack for approximately 2 hours before decorating or freezing.
