Crochet Your Own Snowflake
This video demonstrates how to crochet five different snowflake variations. The woman in the video assumes that you have a basic knowledge of crocheting, including the different chain levels. She takes you through the entire process of making the snowflake, step by step, and lets you know exactly which chains and stitches she is doing and what type of crochet hook is used at any given time. If you want to make a crocheted snowflake ornament , this video will give you some great design ideas.
Step 1: What You Will Need
- 1 styrofoam snowflake
- 1 blue velvet ribbon
- 1 package of mall sized, straight sewing pins with a plastic, opal head on top. Make sure the package has enough to cover the styrofoam snowflake.
- 1 package of ornament hooks
- A variety of medium sized, colorful sequins. Pick out three or four (light blue, opal white, silver and medium blue). You will likely need to purchase four different packages.
Step 2: Make Your Snowflake Ornament
- Decide how you want to decorate the snowflake. Lay out the design in your mind. You might want to just alternate between colors, or you may want to create an actual design.
- Once you have an idea of how you want the snowflake to look, take a straight pin and stick it through one of the sequins. Push it into the styrofoam ball.
- Repeat the above procedure until the entire styrofoam ball has been covered.
- Tie the velvet ribbon into a loop, and use a push pin to secure the underside of the ribbon's loop into the top center of the snowflake. This loop will be how you hang the ornament.
Step 3: Snowflake Ornament Variations
- Crochet a small snowflake using blue or white yarn. Attach an ornament hook to it and hang from the Christmas tree.
- Buy a small, wooden craqft snowflake ornament that has not been painted or decorated. Use acrylic paints to make the snowflake come alive, and add embellishments as desired. Consider using glitter glue, or gluing down sequins or similar, fancy decorative art.
