Introduction
- If you can heat up a frying pan, you can make shrimp scampi. The actual cooking takes only minutes, but for best flavor, the cooking oil should be mixed with the garlic an hour before dinner.
Step 1: Gather Ingredients

Shrimp Scampi Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
8 cloves of garlic, minced and divided
1 pound of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
4 tablespoons of butter, melted
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons dry white wine
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/4 cup of parsley, minced
Shrimp Scampi Equipment
Nonstick frying pan
Saucepan, large enough to hold all the shrimp
Step 2: Cook
1 hour before cooking, pour the olive oil into the nonstick pan, and add half of the garlic.
Heat the garlic oil to medium, and add the shrimp.
Melt the butter in the saucepan, together with the remaining garlic, lemon juice, wine, and pepper
Sauté until done, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the shrimp from the oil, and add it to the butter mixture.
Turn into a bowl, and garnish with the parsley
Step 2: Shrimp Scampi Tips
Add one minced scallion or 2 tablespoons of chives to the butter mixture for added flavor.
If you use smaller shrimp, reduce the cooking time. Jumbo shrimp may take a few minutes longer.
Substitute crushed red pepper for the black pepper for an added kick.
