How to Make Quick Party Snacks

There a lot of things to do when you are throwing a party, and preparing the food can be the most time-and-energy-consuming part of the process. Party snacks are often heavily featured in dinner parties, cocktail parties, or even kids’ birthday parties. This guide on how to make quick party snacks will help you to whip out some great party snacks with minimum effort.

Planning what to do is always an important part of throwing a successful party. You need to plan your party snacks menu and prepare ahead. Buy ingredients that can be easily frozen a few days ahead of time (possibly when you purchase your inedible party needs). Some party snacks can be made a day or two in advance to give you a head start in preparing your party.

If you are going for ease, avoid making everything from scratch near the party time. You can use bottled sauce and frozen pastries to save time and energy. Buy these ingredients ahead of time, perhaps a week in advance if you have time, as they keep very well in the refrigerator.

Prepare some dipping sauces to accompany your snacks. Asian style snacks such as wontons, dumplings, and Thai fish cakes are great with sweet and sour chili sauce. Fritters such as deep-fried calamari taste good with tartar or mayonnaise.

Mini Wontons

Ingredients:

  • 1 package small wonton wrappers

  • 1/2 cup of shrimp, chopped

  • 2 tbsp of soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ground white pepper

Directions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients except the wonton wrappers in the food processor or blender.
  2. Take a tsp of the filling mixture and put it in the center of a wonton wrapper. Gather the four corners of the wonton and twist to make a small pouch shape. You can also make it into a triangle shape.
  3. You can fill the wontons a day ahead and keep them in the freezer.
  4. Boil or deep fry the wontons when you are about to serve them.

Thai Fish Cakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb white fish fillet
  • 2 tbsp fish saucehttp://thaifood.about.com/od/thaisnacks/r/Fishcakes.htm

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten loosely
  • 1/2 cup of chopped green beans
  • 1 spring onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp red curry paste, optional
  • a pinch of salt

Directions:

  1. Put all the ingredients in the food processor and process until smooth. Add some oil if the mixture is too loose.
  2. Shape the mixture into a disc shape with your hands.
  3. Fry on a pan, 1 minute for each side, and drain on paper towels.

Pizza Palmiers

Ingredients:

  • 1 package or 1 lb frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1/4 cup bottled pizza sauce
  • 1/4 cup sun dried tomatoes, choppedhttp://arugulafiles.typepad.com/the_arugula_files/2009/02/savory-palmiers.html

  • some water
  • an egg yolk

Directions:

  1. Roll a pastry sheet on lightly floured flat surface.
  2. Spread the pizza sauce on the pastry thinly, then sprinkle with the tomatoes and top with the Parmesan.
  3. Roll the pastry sheet to resemble a rolled scroll.
  4. Cut the pastry 1 inch thick.
  5. Brush the palmiers with the egg yolk.
  6. Bake in 400 F preheated oven until golden, about 12 minutes.
