Introduction
- Anne Morrow Lindbergh said "...Mothers...are the only workers who do not have regular time off. They are the great vacationless class." preparing and serving your mother breakfast on Mother's day is a great way to begin your mother's one day off a year.
Step 1: Breakfast in Bed or at the Table?
- Only you can make the decision as to whether tray or table service would make your mom happier. Some moms relish the idea of lounging in bed for an hour, curled up with a newspaper and hot coffee, waiting for breakfast to be delivered. Others are horrified by the thought of crumbs in their sheets. Make your decision on how to serve breakfast based on your mother's preference.
Step 2: Set the Stage
- If dining at the table, use the best dishes, a nice placemat, and a vase of flowers. Position a Mother's Day card to the left of her place. Although there's less room on a tray, you can include a single flower, and tie the napkin up in a fancy roll with ribbon.
Step 3: Mother's Day Breakfast Tips
- Let the kids help. The meal will be more meaningful if everyone has a part in preparing it.
- Make sure to clean the kitchen up before your Mom comes downstairs.
- Include one "no fail" item that you're sure she'll like, such as a fruit salad.
- Practicing the recipes before the big day can help ensure they'll go off without a hitch.
- Unless you're a very early riser, recipes that can be prepared ahead will help you get your mom her food before she's starving.
