Introduction
Lobster rolls are very simple to make. The consist of lobster salad served in a grilled.buttered, hot dog bun. You can substitute a high end crusty roll if you'd like, but then you'll have a lobster salad sandwich, not a lobster roll! -
Step 1: What You'll Need to Make Lobster Rolls
Lay out the ingredients before you start to make the lobster rolls. For each lobster roll, you'll need:
- 1/3 cup cooked lobster, chopped
- 2 T mayonnaise
- 1 t lemon juice
- 4 drops Tabasco sauce
- Salt, to taste
- 1 hot dog bun
- 1 T melted butter

Step 2: Make the Lobster Salad
The lobster salad filling for the lobster rolls can be made a day ahead, to streamline the preparation.
- Combine the lobster, mayonnaise, lemon juice, Tabasco, and salt in a bowl.
- Taste the salad, and adjust seasoning as desired.
Step 3: Grill the Roll
- Preheat a frying pan. Cast iron is best, but any will work.
- Brush the butter on the inside of the hot dog roll.
- Place the hot dog roll on the frying pan butter side down, and cook until brown.
- Remove the roll from the pan, add the salad, and eat!
Lobster Roll Variations
- It may be unorthodox, but some people prefer their lobster roll with an ungrilled bun.
- You can line the bun with lettuce and add additional mayonnaise if desired.
- Use grilled lobster for a smokey taste.
- Substitute chopped shrimp or crab for all or part of the lobster.
- Add fresh herbs, such as chives, dill, or tarragon, for an elegant lobster salad filling for the lobster rolls. Serve on a crusty roll instead of a hamburger bun.
