Introduction
Jello salad can be made either with commercial packaged Jell-O, or with a combination of gelatin, sugar, and fruit juice. Starting with unflavored gelatin allows you to customize the flavors and control the ingredients, and is almost as easy as using packaged Jell-O. -
Step 1: Fruits Not to Use in Jello Salad
Certain fruits contain an enzyme which will prevent gelatin from jelling properly. These fruits shouldn't be used fresh or frozen; they need to be cooked thoroughly first to inactivate the enzyme:
Step 2: What You Need to Make Jello Salad
- 1 package Jell-O or 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin and 4-6 tablespoons of sugar
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 cup boiling water (if using Jell-O) or 1 cup boiling fruit juice (if using gelatin)
- 1 1/2 cups chopped fruit
- 3 cup bowl or mold
Step 3: How to Make Jello Salad
- Combine the Jell-O or gelatin and sugar with the cold water, and mix well.
- Add the boiling water or juice and stir until dissolved.
- Mix in the fruit.
- Pour the mixture into the bowl or mold and chill until firm.
- Dip the bowl or mold in hot water briefly before removing from the mold.
