What You'll Need
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust, rolled out to fit a 9-inch pie plate
- 10-14 large apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced (about 12 cups)
- 1 1/2 tbsp flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp butter, chopped
- 2 tbsp milk or cream
- 1 tbsp sugar mixed with 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

- 9-inch pie plate
- Mixing spoons
- Mixing bowl
- Pastry brush
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425° F (218° C).
- Place the bottom crust in the pie plate. Pressing it into the bottom with your flour-covered fingertips.
- Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a bowl.
- Toss the apples in the sugar mixture.
- Place the apples in the bottom crust, mounding the apples in the center.
- Scatter the butter pieces on top of the apples.
- Place the top crust on the pie then seal and crimp the edges.
- Brush the top with of the pie with milk or cream and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Make several slits in the top of the pie for steam to escape.
- Place the pie in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat to 350° F (176° C) and continue to bake an additional 50-60 minutes or until crust is browned and filling is bubbling. Insert a knife through one of the slits to make sure the apples are tender.
