Introduction
Sure, you can buy guitar picks at a music store, but why bother when they are so easy to make yourself? You can create your own picks using any type of thin, rigid plastic and a few tools that are found in most homes. You may experiment with different materials and shapes, and create guitar picks that are completely customized to your individual style! -
Step 1: Gather Materials
Here's what you need:- Thin sheet of plastic, such as a credit card
- Sharp scissors or an exacto knife
- A marker
- A file or emory board
Step 2: Design
If you already have a guitar pick at home, you can simply trace around it onto your piece of plastic, using your marker, to replicate the design. If not, just draw a rounded triangle shape by hand.Of course, you do not have to use the standard guitar pick design at all if you don't want to. You can customize your pick by drawing any shape that you desire! The only important thing to keep in mind is that your lick should not have a sharp edge in the place where it will actually be touching the guitar string. Remember, strings may not always seem fragile, but it easy to cause nicks and dents, which may affect the quality of the tone and wear them out. The last thing you need is for your guitar string to snap because your pick had too sharp of an edge!
Step 3: Cut and File
Using your scissors or exacto knife, carefully cut along the lines you made with the marker. The edges will probably be a bit raggedy, so use your file or emory board to smooth it out. Using jagged edges cn damage your strings, so this is an important step.Once you've filed, you are all done. Now you can start playing your instrument with your homemade pick!
