Step 1: Gather Ingredients
This makes 2 sandwiches:
- 4 slices rye, whole wheat or sourdough bread
- 4 slices melting cheese, such as mild or medium cheddar, Muenster, or provolone
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 4 tomato slices (optional)
Step 2: Grill
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat
- Place bread slices on skillet
- Toast lightly
- Flip bread slices over
- Place cheese and tomato (if using) onto 2 of the bread slices
- Cover with the other two slices, toasted side down
- Cover skillet
- Flip when bread is golden brown on one side
- Grill until the other side is golden brown and cheese is melted
