Introduction
- Fried rice can be made from scratch, or can be created from previously cooked rice, vegetables, and scrambles eggs. Different cultures have their own seasonings and flavorings, but the process used to create the dish is consistent. Heat oil, quickly heat the vegetables, add the rice and seasonings, and blend.
Step 1: Fried Rice Overview
- You can be flexible with your ingredients; the proportions are not set in stone. You generally want 3- 4 times as much rice as vegetables and protein.
What You'll Need
- Rice, 4 cups cooked
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 - 1 1/2 cups of vegetables, cooked
- 2 eggs
- Sesame oil and soy sauce for flavor
- Frying pan or wok
- Spoon or spatula to stir while cooking
Instructions
- Heat frying pan or wok over high heat.
- Add vegetable oil.
- Add vegetables and stir-fry briefly, about 1 minute until hot.
- Crack eggs over vegetable mixture, and stir-fry until done.
- Add rice and seasonings and toss over heat until everything is hot and thoroughly blended.
- Serve immediately.
Step 2: Fried Rice Tips
- Add garlic, ginger, and/or green onions with the vegetables.
- If using frozen vegetables, you'll need to increase the cooking time.
- You can substitute brown rice for the white rice to increase the nutritional value.
