In this video, Mahalo wedding experts Dana LaRue and Hunter Stiebel show you how to have a wedding on a budget by making felt hair clips for your bridesmaids.
What You'll Need
- Sheets of felt
- Metal hair clips
- Heavy-duty scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
Step 1: Cut Out Felt Shapes
Get creative and cut out your felt sheets into whatever shape you want. You can cut out several of the same shape in different sizes and layer them on top of each other or you can use the leftovers like stencils and lay it on top of a whole piece of felt (like the pink and green heart example). Once you have your shapes, glue them together to make the design of your choice.
Step 2: Glue to Clip
Take whatever design you've made and hot glue it to the clip. Add a strip of fabric to the back that goes over the top part of the clip and sits between the top and bottom so that it hold the felt to the clip.
Make sure that you glue the felt onto the barrette when it's in the closed position so that it lays correctly on your head. You can even insert an additional piece of felt in between the clip to simulate real hair and to prevent you from gluing the clip together.
