How to Make Dog Treats

Show your pooch how much you love him or her by taking the time to make your own healthy, scrumptious (to Fido, anyway) doggie biscuits. The process is not too complicated--if you can make a Rice Krispies treat, you can easily learn how to make dog treats.

There are many recipes for dog treats out there, ranging from biscuits made from dog food to vegan "cookies" made with fresh veggies and honey. The following recipe combines two things that will make just about any dog start drooling: peanut butter and cheese. Step 1: What You Need

Here are the ingredients for peanut butter 'n cheese dog treats:

  • 2 cups flour (whole wheat is best)
  • 3/4 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter, any style
  • 1/3 cup Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/4 cups hot water

Step 2: Making the Dog Treats

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Mix together flour and oats
  3. Add peanut butter, honey and water
  4. Mix well
  5. Add cheese
  6. Knead dough, and roll into a sheet about 1/4-inch thick
  7. Cut out shapes with your knife or cookie cutter
  8. Place biscuits on greased baking sheet
  9. Bake 35-45 minutes, until golden brown
  10. Let cool
  11. Serve to a deserving dog
