A basic recipe for a typical quiche contains the following: a pie shell (homemade, frozen), eggs, a fat such as olive oil or vegetable oil, onions and garlic, seasoning of salt and black pepper, dairy, mainly cream or half and half, fresh or dried herbs, grated flavorful cheese, and a leafy green vegetable.http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/basic-quiche-10000001123637/index.html Meat such as ham can be added for flavor (a smoky flavor) as an option. If you're trying to limit calories, or avoid gluten, you may want to consider a crustless quiche. Just pour all the typical quiche ingredients into a baking dish and bake, making sure the quiche is fully cooked and solid when you remove it from the oven..

Some variations can be made to the quiche recipe.
