This video recipe uses dried brown gravy, powdered Italian salad dressing mix, and a a pack of dried Ranch dressing mix. To reduce the sodium count cut the amount of Ranch dressing mixed used. For larger crockpots use more water. This video shows a recipe prepared with carrots and meat. Chunks of potatoes can also be added.
5 Minute Pot Roast
The ingredients for a five minute pot roast as as simple as the preparation, just the roast and two cans of cream soup. Flavor of soup can be changed but having two cans is necessary so there is plenty of broth/gravy for the cooking meat.
What You Need for 5 Minute Pot Roast
- 3-4 pound pot roast
- 1 10 ounce can cream of mushroom condensed soup
- 1 10 ounce can cream of chicken condensed soup
How to Make 5 Minute Pot Roast
- Place the pot roast in the slow cooker
- Open both cans of soup and pour over pot roast
- Cover slow cooker, and cook for 4-5 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low.
10 Minute Pot Roast
This roast takes a bit longer to prepare because you need to chop the vegetables.
What You Need for 10 Minute Pot Roast
- 3-4 pound pot roast
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 1/2 cup chopped Carrots
- 2 tablespoons chopped celery
- 1/2 cup beef or chicken stock
- 1 cup red wine
- 1/4 cup chopped canned tomatoes
- Pinch dried thyme
- 1/8 teaspoon dried marjoram
- Freshly ground pepper, to taste
How to Make 10 Minute Pot Roast
- Place onions, celery and carrots in the slow cooker.
- Place the pot roast on top of the vegetables.
- Pour the rest of the ingredients over the pot roast.
- Cover slow cooker, and cook for 4-5 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low.
20 Minute Pot Roast
This pot roast is browned first, which adds a richness to the pot roast, but also takes a bit more time.
What You Need for 20 Minute Pot Roast
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3-4 pound pot roast
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 1/2 cup chopped carrots
- 2 tablespoons chopped celery
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1/4 cup chopped canned tomatoes
- Pinch dried thyme
- 1/8 teaspoon dried marjoram
- Freshly ground pepper, to taste
How to Make 20 Minute Pot Roast
- Brown beef in vegetable oil on a sides in a heavy skillet.
- When beef is browned, place it in the slow cooker.
- Sauté the onions, carrots, and celery in the drippings on low for 5 minutes.
- Add the beef broth to the skillet, and bring to a boil, scraping up the browned bits.
- Pour the contents of the skillet over the pot roast.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the crockpot.
- Cover slow cooker, and cook for 4-5 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low.
Best Meat for Pot Roast
A boneless chuck roast works well for pot roast, as it is flavorful and doesn't have too much fat. A rump roast or a bottom round roast will also work well.
