  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, mixed with 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, to sprinkle on the crust

Step 2: How to Make Cranberry Apple Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F.
  2. Place the bottom crust in the pie plate.
  3. Mix the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a bowl.
  4. Toss the apples and cranberries in the sugar mixture.
  5. Allow to sit for 20 minutes, so that he juices will be drawn out by the sugar.
  6. Mix in the tapioca.
  7. Allow to sit for another 20 minutes, so that the tapioca can begin to absorb the juices.
  8. Place the filling in the bottom crust, mounding towards the center.
  9. Scatter the butter on top of the filling.
  10. Place the top crust on the pie, and crimp the edges.
  11. Brush the top with of the pie with milk or cream, and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  12. Make several slits in the top of the pie for steam to escape.
  13. Place the pie in the oven, and bake for 10 minutes.
  14. Reduce heat to 350 F and continue to bake an additional 50- 60 minutes, until crust is browned and filling is bubbling. Insert a knife through one of the slits to make sure the apples are tender.

  1. Brush on a sugar glaze made by combining 1/2 cup of confectioners sugar with 1 tablespoon of water before baking, instead of brushing with cream and sprinkling with cinnamon sugar.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of raisins if desired.
  3. Top with a streusel topping instead of a top crust.
