How to Make Cornbread

What You'll Need

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup corn flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
Equipment
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • Mixing spoon
  • Whisk
  • Baking dish, greased

Step 1: Mix Dry Ingredients

Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, corn flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.

Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk the eggs together then add the milk, buttermilk and canola oil.

Step 3: Combine All Ingredients

Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients but do not overmix. Scoop up from the bottom and over the top of the mix to stir.

Step 4: Bake and Serve

Pour the mixture into your baking pan so that it is evenly distributed in the pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. It's done when you can insert a fork or toothpick into the cornbread and it comes out clean.

Let cool for a few minutes then slice and serve with chili or by itself.
