Step 1:What You Need to Make Cornbread
- You probably have everything you need to make cornbread, except perhaps the cornmeal, in your pantry already.
Cornbread Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup creamed corn
- 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Nonstick cooking spray

Step 2: How to Make Cornbread
- Homemade cornbread can be assembled in about as much time as it takes to make a cornbread from a mix.
- Preheat to 400°F
- Spray 8x8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
- Mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in large bowl to blend.
- Add creamed corn, butter and egg.
- Stir until just blended; do not over beat.
- Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Bake about 20-25 minutes. The cornbread is done when the edges brown slightly and began to pull away from the pan. A toothpick inserted into the center of the cornbread should come out clean.

You can customize cornbread to your famiily's tastes.- Add a drained can of chopped green chilies with the liquid ingredients for green chile cornbread.
- Replace the creamed corn with 1/2 cup buttermilk and an additional egg for buttermilk corn bread.
