Also called the Puerto Rican eggnog, Coquito is easy to make to enjoy around the Christmas and New Years holidays. To make your own batch at home, you will need to gather your ingredients, prepare the drink and learn about common variations.
Alternate Coquito Recipe
In this video, the chef shows an alternate version of creating a large batch of Coquito. She adds in vanilla as well as Malibu rum to the classic ingredients for additional flavor. Also, she boils sticks of cinnamon in water with her special other ingredients to bring out the cinnamon flavor for the drink.
Step 1: Gather the Ingredients
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 12-oz. can evaporated milk
- 1 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 15-oz. can coconut milk
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 cup clear rum
- Ground cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish
Step 2: Prepare Coquito
- Combine the egg yolks and evaporated milk in the top of a double boiler.
- Heat the mixture, stirring constantly until it reaches 160 degrees F.
- Carefully pour the mixture into a blender and add the condensed milk, coconut milk, cinnamon and rum.
- Blend for about 30 seconds.
- Transfer the mixture to glasses or a pitcher and refrigerate overnight.
- Top with cinnamon or nutmeg, serve and enjoy!
Coquito Variations
- Try the recipe without the eggs, combining in a blender and serving for a lighter flavor.
- Add a teaspoon of vanilla if desired.
- Vary your spices and choice of rum for additional flavor options.
- Some Coquito recipes suggest combining the ingredients, including raw eggs, in a blender, then serving. Consuming raw eggs is not recommended.
