  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups cherries, pitted
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired

  • 2 large spoons
  • 2 quart casserole
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • Pastry blender

Step 2: How to Make Cherry Cobbler

  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF.
  2. Toss cherries, sugar, almond extract, and flour in a bowl.
  3. Pour into casserole dish, and set aside.
  4. Mix flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder and salt in mixing bowl.
  5. Cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture looks like fine crumbs with no large lumps.
  6. Stir in milk.
  7. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto cherries mixture. Make sure you have at least as many dollops of dough as people who will be eating the cobbler.
  8. Bake uncovered approximately 40 minutes or until biscuit topping is golden brown.
  9. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

Step 3: Cherry Cobbler Alternative Suggestions

  1. You can substitute unsweetened canned cherries for fresh cherries.
  2. For a quick cobbler, replace the biscuit dough with slices of refrigerated sugar cookie dough, and use cherry pie filling instead of fresh cherries. Bake for 15 minutes.
  3. Add a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and an 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg for a spiced cherry cobbler.
