Step 1: What You'll Need to Make Berry Cobbler

Ingredients You'll Need for Berry Cobbler

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 4 cups fresh berries, either all of one type of a mix of what you have
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired

  • Saucepan
  • 2 mixing spoons
  • Shallow 2 quart casserole
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry blender

Step 2: How to Make Berry Cobbler

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
  2. Mix the sugar and the cornstarch in saucepan.
  3. Stir in berries and lemon juice.
  4. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until the berry mixture thickens
  5. Boil for 1 minute, continuing to stir.
  6. Pour into casserole dish, and set aside while you prepare the topping.
  7. Mix flour, remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder and salt in mixing bowl.
  8. Cut in butter with pastry blender until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  9. Stir in milk to form a soft dough.
  10. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto berry mixture. Make sure you have at least as many dollops of dough as people who will be eating the cobbler.
  11. Bake uncovered for about 30 minutes or until biscuit topping is golden brown.
  12. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

  1. Substitute peaches for up to half of the berries.
  2. Add a teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract to the berry filling after you've taken it off the heat.
  3. Taste the filling after thickening. Some berries may need more sugar or lemon juice.
