How to Make a Virgin Pina Colada
In this video from Expert Village, your friendly bartender takes you through the steps of making a virgin pina colada, starting with gathering together your ingredients and moving through the actual process of making the drink itself.
Step 1: Virgin Pina Colada Ingredients
In order to make this yummy concoction, you will need to make sure to have the following:
- 1 to 2 cans cream of coconut - this can usually be found in the international aisle of your local grocery store
- 1 small can of pinapple chunks or rings, in juice
- ice
- blender
- Marashino cherries for garnish (optional)
- Pineapple slice for garnish (optional)
Step 2: Make Your Virgin Pina Colada
After you have your ingredients gathered, you can get started on making the actual drink.
- Place a generous amount of the ice into the blender.
- If your ice is in large chunks, you might want to blend just the ice for a moment before adding the remainder of your ingredients.
- Depending on how much of the drink you are wanting to make, add either 1 or both of the cans of cream of coconut into the blender.
- Add the pineapple rings or chunks, then pour in about half of the juice in the can. If you like the strong taste of pineapple, you can add more. If you prefer less of the pineapple flavor, you can add less.
- Blend at a high speed.
- When your mixture is thick but not chunky, it is ready to go.
- Pour into a tall glass.
- Garnish with cherries and pineapple slices as desired.
- Serve and enjoy!
Step 3: Virgin Pina Colada Variations
This drink is fairly straight forward, but there are simple changes you can make in the recipe.
- You can choose not to use fresh or canned pineapple and instead use all pineapple juice.
- If you decide you want the non-virgin version after all, simply add light rum.
- You can also add a variety of other fresh fruits to the mixture to give your pina colada a new flavor. Some classic choices include strawberry, mango or pomegranate.
