Margaritas are the perfect addition to a lazy day by the pool, a summer BBQ or any party with a Mexican theme. Of course, having non-alcoholic, or virgin, options is essential to any events. Whether your party is going to include non-drinkers, designated drivers or those who are underage, providing guests with beverage options will make your party that much better. And even if you are just making drinks for you, drinking too much in the sun is not a great idea - so knowing how to make virgin margaritas can also add to your own poolside enjoyment.
Making virgin margaritas is easy and can even be kind of fun. You can make either blended virgin margaritas, or margaritas on the rocks. And all of the classic variations that can be made with liquor can also be made without it. Read on to learn how to make a great non-alcoholic margarita.
Tips
Garnish your drink with a fresh lime wedge.
The easiest way to salt or sugar the rim of your glass is to sprinkle sugar or salt into a saucer and then dip the rim into it.
Try chilling your glass for a frosty treat.
Step 1: Blended Virgin Margarita
Blended margaritas are frozen, almost slushy-like drinks that many find completely delicious. Luckily, the non-alcoholic version of it is just as good!
To make four blended non-alcoholic margaritas, you will need the following:
- 6 ounces frozen limeade (thawed)
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 lime wedge
- 2 tablespoons margarita salt (available at most grocery stores)
- 3 cups ice, cubed or crushed
- Blender
Once you have your ingredients, you can make your drink!
- Add the ice, limade and orange juice to the blender.
- Blend until the ice is completely crushed, most likely at high speed.
- Moisten the rims of 4 glasses using your lime wedge.
- Dip the glass rims in the margarita salt.
- Pour your mixture into each glass equally.
- Serve and enjoy!
Non-Alcholic Party Drinks
Having non-alcoholic drinks options is one way to make good parties great. As this video points out, it is also a great way to deal with overly drunk guests without embarassing them, or perhaps even alerting to them to the fact that they are no longer imbibing!
Step 2: Virgin Margarita on the Rocks
Not everyone likes their margaritas frozen. Making a non-alcoholic margarita on the rocks is quick and simple.
To make a single virgin margarita on the rocks, gather the following:
- 2 ounces sour mix
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
- 1/2 ounce orange juice
- 1 tablespoon margarita salt

- Margarita glass
- Cocktail shaker
Once you have your ingredients, do the following:
- Use the lime to moisten the edge of your margarita glass.
- Dip the glass' edge into the margarita salt.
- Fill the glass with crushed ice.
- In your cocktail shaker, add the lime juice, the orange juice and the sour mix. Shake well.
- Pour over the ice.
- Serve and enjoy!
Step 3: Virgin Margarita Variations
Just as with regular (meaning alcoholic) margaritas, you can make a large variety of different flavored virgin margaritas.
- Virgin Strawberry Margaritas
- Add 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
- Sustitute sugar for the salt on the rims of the glasses.
- Virgin Pomegranate Margaritas
- Add 3 ounces of pomegranate juice
- You can use either salt or sugar on the rims of the glasses.
You can also play with a variety of other fruity flavors. Just add juice from and/or fresh pieces of the flavor you wish to achieve.
