Tinkerbell (Fairy) Costume Make-Up ~ by Kandee
This in-depth makeup tutorial shows you how to do a high quality Tinkerbell look complete with a wig. Your costume can still look great without complicated makeup like this, but it might still be worth the effort. The video includes tips such as using a lot of green eye shadow, stick-on gems and sparkles.
Step 1: Clothing
All you really need if you're going for an easy, inexpensive costume is a short, bright green dress cut above the knees. Fraying or lightly ripping the hem at the bottom of the dress to make it jagged is a free way to add some detail. If you aren't normally comfortable wearing a shorter dress, adding tights or legging is a great way to cover up and stay a little warmer on Halloween night. However, since Tinkerbell doesn't wear tights, it's best to make get them in a skin-tone or white rather than in green.
Step 2: Accessories
The accessories are the most important part of Tinkerbell's outfit. At minimum, you'll need wings and blond hair. Many different styles of fairy wings are available at Halloween stores and local retailers, but making your own is also an option. For Tinkerbell's hair, if you're a blonde, you may be all set. If not, consider picking up a wig. Don't forget to add lots of sparkles to your outfit, as Tinkerbell had them constantly trailing behind her in the Peter Pan movie.
You'll also need green shoes that complement your outfit. Tinkerbell wears ballerina flats in the same color as her dress so match the colors as closely as you can. For extra detail, add pom poms to the tops of the shoes.
Step 3: Makeup
Once you have the rest of your costume finished you can focus on the makeup. A simple look is completely appropriate, but some people also like to go all out. However, keep in mind that purchasing several makeup products to get that perfect look is not going to be cheap. To save money, it may be best to work with what you already have. Tinkerbell's face in Peter Pan featured large exaggerated eye features and bright red lips, but you can also experiment with sparkles and green eye shadow.
