Mahalo expert Jaala Pickering shows you how to make a decorated Thanksgiving turkey tablecloth.
Crafting with children is a good activity for the Thanksgiving holiday. One craft that is simple to make, even with younger children, is a Thanksgiving turkey tablecloth. The craft is safe for children as it requires no hot glue or dangerous materials. It is messy, so adult supervision is advised. You can decorate as little or as much of a table cloth as you desire.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrNd2d3ycQc
If you want a permanent decorative item that you could use yearly, opt for a cotton or cotton blend table cloth. If you want something temporary and easy to clean up, purchase a disposable cloth. This same craft could be replicated on pictures rather than a table cloth if you have limited space or would prefer to dress your table with other decorative items.
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Obtain a disposable tablecloth, four water-based or child-friendly paints, some feathers, googly eyes and some paper plates. You may also want to have a steady supply of paper towels and a source of water nearby as this craft tends to be messy. You can select any colors you would like for your turkeys, but try to look for colors that will show up on your table cloth. For example, if your table cloth is red, avoid using red paint.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrNd2d3ycQc
Step 2: Paint Turkey Base
Place a glob of each paint color onto a disposable plate. Place the palm of your hand into the first color, your thumb into another color, your four remaining fingers in the third color. Ensure all sections of your hand are well-covered in paint. Firmly place your hand on the table cloth where you want your turkey to reside. Repeat the process across your table cloth in any pattern you desire.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrNd2d3ycQc
Step 3: Decorate Turkey
Place the end of your pointer finger in your fourth color and create two lines coming out of the bottom of your thumb print on each turkey to replicate the animal's beak. Place feathers along each of your upper finger prints with the stem of the feather at the base of your fingers. Add a googly eye on top of your thumb print for the turkey's eye. Continue this process until all your Thanksgiving turkeys are completed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrNd2d3ycQc
