You can learn how to make a Super Bowl cake to serve at your Super Bowl party and no party is complete without desserts for your friends and family members. Rather than picking the store-bought cakes this year, why not dazzle your guests by making and decorating a themed Super Bowl cake. The options for making Super Bowl cakes can be endless. From simple recipes that show team spirit, to very intricate cakes that use specially shaped baking pans and fondant for the decorations. For the cake itself, common options include baking the batter in a standard rectangular 9x13-inch baking pan, using a specialized pan in the shape of a football or stadium or even making Super Bowl cupcakes that are arranged into the shape of a football field, team logo or football.
Once the cake is baked, the decorating fun begins. For those with less experience working with icings, you can simply use frosting in team colors, covering half with the main color of each competing teams. If you are looking for more of a challenge, try frosting the cake green, then adding details with white icing for the yard lines and other colors for team logos and other items. For those that love to decorate with fondant, try making a large logo in the center of your frosted cake, either to feature team logos or even the logo of the specific Super Bowl being played.

Super Bowl Helmet Cake
Here you will see how one Pittsburgh Steeler fan made a cake resembling a football helmet to show her team spirit. As she didn't have a baking pan in the necessary shape, she baked the cake in a round ovenproof bowl. The cooled cake is inverted and covered with black fondant. White gun paste is used to create the mask portion of the helmet and colored gum paste is used to show the decorations and logos of the helmet design. These techniques can be used to create a helmet for any team by changing the decorations to suit the team's style.
Team Spirit Cake
Ingredients
- 2 nine-inch round cake layers, baked
- 1 can frosting, your desired background color
- Fondant
- Food coloring
Preparation Method
- Place one layer of the cake on a serving platter.
- Frost the top of the layer with the frosting.
- Center the second layer on top of the first, over the frosting.
- Frost the entire cake, including the top and sides. Smooth the frosting as well as possible using a rubber spatula or broad knife.
- Decide on how you'd like to decorate your cake. Using logo(s) of the teams participating or that or your favorite team are popular selections as is the logo of the Super Bowl being played.
- Determine how many colors you'll need for your decorations. For example, if you are doing a Pittsburgh Steelers logo, you'll want equal portions of yellow, red and blue for the decorations.
- Divide the fondant into portions, enough for each color.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to each fondant portion, kneading the mixture into the fondant until your desired color forms.
- Roll the fondant on a surface dusted with powdered sugar until about 1/8-1/4 inch thick.
- Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the fondant into the shapes of your desired logo. Assemble the pieces of fondant on the top and sides of the cake. Use a bit of frosting to act as a glue to stick the fondant to the cake if desired.http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__JxGMJ4wYD0/SMrAVaUiccI/AAAAAAAAAAM/sLsOgiQL9wo/s1600-h/bathroom_SuperBowl+Cake+021.jpg

Easy Football Cake
Ingredients
- 1 19.5-oz box chocolate cake mix
- 1 can chocolate frosting
- 1 pre-made packet of squeezable white icing
Preparation Method
- Prepare the cake batter according to package directions.
- Pour the batter into two round cake pans and bake according to the directions listed on the box. (If you have an oval-shaped pan, that can be used as well.)
- Allow the cake to cool completely.
- Stack the baked and cooled layers one on top of another and using a sharp knife, carefully cut the cake from a circle shape to an oval, the shape of a football.
- Un-stack the cakes, placing one on a serving platter. Using the chocolate frosting, frost the top of the cake only.
- Center the second later over the first on top of the frosting.
- Using the chocolate frosting, cover both layers, including the top and sides. Smooth the frosting with a rubber spatula or broad knife.
- Carefully cut the tip off of the squeezable white icing, creating a large hole for the icing to flow.
- In the center of the cake with the longer end facing you, make a horizontal line about one-third of the length of the cake.
- Make smaller vertical lines across the first line of white icing, to mimic the stitching on a football.
- Near the small ends of the cake, make one wide vertical line on each end. It may take several passes with the icing to make the lines wide, similar to the markings on a football.http://recipes.kaboose.com/football-cake.html

Football Field Cake
Ingredients
- 1 standard 9x13-inch sheet cake, baked, any flavor
- 1 can chocolate frosting
- 7 oz. shredded coconut
- Green food coloring
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 4 pretzel rods
- 1 can white frosting
Preparation Method
- Frost the top and sides of the sheet cake with the chocolate frosting. Smooth the sides of the cake, but leave the top of the cake as-is as it will be covered.
- Combine the shredded coconut with the green food coloring in a plastic bag. Use about five-to-six drops at a time, shaking the bag to coat the coconut until a green color to match grass appears.
- Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave. Heat at 50% power for 30-second intervals, stirring frequently until smooth.
- Carefully cut or break two of the pretzel rods in half. Break the other two pretzel rods into thirds.
- Dip the halved pretzel rods in the melted chocolate two at a time and lay them parallel alongside one another, on a sheet of wax paper.
- Dip the thirds of pretzel rod into the chocolate and arrange one centered over the each of the doubled halves. Lay two sections above the first third, connecting vertically on each end. The final product should resemble a Y-shaped goal post.
- Allow the goal posts to cool, in the refrigerator if desired.
- Sprinkle the green coconut evenly over the top of the frosted cake.
- Spoon the white frosting into a plastic baggie, cutting a hole in one corner to form a moderately sized area for the frosting to flow out of.
- Starting with one line in the center of the cake, squeeze lines of the white frosting over the coconut, working parallel to the shorter side of the cake. The finished product should resemble yard lines.
- Using the other corner of the baggie, cut a smaller hole to provide a thin point to draw with.
- Squeeze the bag to draw yard-line numbers near each line. The center should be 50, with each line going towards the end of the cake decreasing to zero.
- Use the remaining icing to mark criss-cross lines between the ends of the cake and the closest line. This will give the appearance of end zones.
- Take the chilled chocolate and pretzel goal posts and stick them vertically in the center of each end zone.http://z.about.com/d/entertaining/1/5/Q/3/footballcake.jpg
