If you are participating in a Christmas play at church or school, attending a Christmas party where costumes are encouraged, or just want to dress yourself or your children up for the holidays, you may want to consider making your own snowflake costume. This simple project is fun and easy to do. The steps below will show you how to make a snowflake costume at home.

• This is a great family craft, and kids will love helping to decorate the snowflake suit. While a capable adult should be responsible for cutting out the cardboard, children can participating in designing the cutouts, and embellishing with paint and glitter. They will feel especially good about wearing something that they helped to make!

• 2 large pieces of white cardboard or poster board
• 2 strips of elastic
• Pencil
• Eraser
• Sharp scissors
• White, silver and light aqua paints and markers
• Glitter
• Face and hair glitter
• White shirt
• White pants
• White shoes

1. Poke 2 holes into each piece of cardboard/poster board just above where the shoulders will be
2. Outline the snowflake design onto one piece of cardboard using your pencil (for symmetry, fold in half and draw the design one side)
3. Cut out shape (keep cardboard folded and cut through both sides if you are making it symmetrical)
4. Place the cut cardboard on top of the second piece
5. Trace the shape
6. Cut out the second piece of cardboard
7. Tie elastic strips through the holes at the top--these will rest on the shoulders

Once your snowflake costume has been assembled, it is time to start decorating. Paint or draw designs onto the outside of the cardboard. Finish by gluing on glitter, if desired. When it is time to wear the costume, pair with white shirt, pants and shoes. Then apply glitter to the face and hair to complete the look. Have fun!
