Diets and drinking alcoholic beverages do not always mix as many common drink ingredients contain calories and sugar. A Skinnygirl Margarita reduces calories by eliminating sweetened lime juice and sweet and sour mixtures that are common in traditional margaritas. Mixes and sweetened fruit juices may contain more calories and sugar than some people on a diet may prefer. When you are learning how to prepare mixed drinks, it is a good idea to add a lower calorie option to your drink recipe library. The Skinnygirl Margarita primarily contains alcohol along with fresh-squeezed lime juice in order to cut down on the calorie filled ingredients. Some individuals may find this drink too drastic, so consider adding a hint of sweetness though a splash of orange juice.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaR6HOIo9u4
How to Make a Skinnygirl Margarita Video
JaNee Nisonger is a Los Angeles area bartender. She presents a mixed drink instructional video on how to prepare a Skinnygirl Martini. She outlines the ingredients needed, the preparation method and the drink's lower calorie characteristics. This mixed drink guide is part of a larger series of instructional videos offered on the Mahalo.com YouTube channel.
Step 1: Obtain Ingredients
Purchase tequila, triple sec, limes and orange juice. Bartender JaNee Nisonger suggests using Jose Cuervo tequila, Dekuyper triple sec and Minute Maid orange juice, or you can opt for your favorite brands. If you want more alcohol content in your drink, you can minimize the orange juice and add more triple sec. You will also need a margarita glass, a stainless steel shaker, a measuring glass and ice.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaR6HOIo9u4
Step 2: Measure and Combine Ingredients
Fill your stainless steel cocktail shaker and your margarita glass with ice. Cut your lime into wedges. Squeeze the juice of the lime into your shaker glass, then drop each lime wedge into the shaker. Measure 1 1/2 ounces of tequila and add it to your shaker. Add about 1/2 ounce of triple sec. For a true Skinnygirl Margarita, you would not add any additional ingredients. If you want a little sweetness in your drink, add a splash of orange juice to your shaker.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaR6HOIo9u4
Step 3: Shake and Serve
Place the strainer and top on your shaker, then agitate the mixture about 20 times to chill the drink and provide some ice chips to the mixture. Take the top off the cocktail shaker, then strain the mixture into your margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish if desired, then serve.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaR6HOIo9u4
