Making Simple Earrings
The video is very helpful to make your first earring. Note, that it did not show how to make the loops the same size. It is very important to get the loop same size for an aesthetically pleasing result. It will take some practice to make the perfect wraps.
Introduction
In this article we are going to make a bead dangle earring for pierced ears. You'll need one set of round nose pliers and one set of wire cutting pliers. Other items you'll need are two headpins, two big beads,a black sharpie marker and two small beads. (These will prevent the big beads slipping out of the head pin. If the head of the headpin is large enough to keep the big beads stay on, you don’t need the small beads).
Gather Your Accessories
Have 2 headpins of equal length, two big beads of your choice, two small beads to prevent the bigger bead from falling off the headpin, two ear wires and your round nose pliers and cutting pliers ready. Having your tools within reach is helpful to finish the project faster. Decorative head pins are available in the craft store.
The Process
- Thread the small bead on to the headpin.
- Thread the big bead on the headpin.
- Grab your headpin right above the big bead with the round nose pliers. Use the sharpie marker to mark the place on the round nose player where the headpin touches the pliers. (This will help you later to make the same size of loop for the second earring.)
- Bend the headpin in a 90 degree angle.
- Use your finger to make the wire go around the lower jaw of the pliers.
- Release the pliers.
- Thread the ear wire to the loop you just made.
- Grab the loop you just made with the pliers so that the lower jaw is inside the loop. #Using your fingers, bring the wire below the lower jaw and wrap the head pin around the stem just above the bead.
- Take your wire cutters and cut the end of the headpin as close as possible to the stem.
- Use your round nose pliers to press down any sharp edges sticking out.
Create a Matching Earring
Now you have finished one earring. Now all you need to do is to make a matching one. So follow the previous steps to create a matching pair.
You just made a pair of simple earrings! Experiment with different beads and more than 2 beads to have a longer dangle.
