Professor McGonagall is the head of Gryffendor House in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. As Halloween approaches, consider dressing up like the headmistress. If you and some friends will be going as the Harry Potter crew, you’ll need to know how to make a Professor McGonagall Costume. Read on for some easy instructions and tips.
Professor McGonagall
Professor McGonagall’s outfits are usually quite plain as far as wizards are concerned. There is little one can do to add flair to her outfits because then you won’t look like she does. But if you want to get some ideas on how to make a Professor McGonagall costume, here is a brief video that’s sort of a tribute to the headmistress as well.
Introduction
Step 1: First the Hair
Professor McGonagall wears her hair pulled back in a loosely secured bun. In the movie, her hair has a reddish cast. If you have short hair, consider wearing a reddish or dark wig and pull it into a bun or low ponytail. You won’t be able to see it under the hat anyway.
Step 2: Costume Tips
Professor McGonagall wears a hat with feathers adhered to it at times and at others, her hat is unadorned. Simply purchase a black witches hat at a costume shop or even at Walmart and adhere a few bird feathers purchased from a craft shop to the side. Wear a long black dress or plain long skirt and turtle-neck long sleeve top.
Step 3: Accessorize
Wear a long, emerald green robe or get some emerald green material from a craft store and wear it loosely draped over the black dress secured with a pin or a button. Professor McGonagall usually wears a pendant or a broach of some sort adhered to the neck of her top. Wire rim glasses will complete the look but you may want to carry a wand for good measure.
