Introduction
Dressing up as a NASCAR driver is not difficult. It is a fun way to create one special costume item that can be worn for an entire day and then dismantled if necessary. The following guide to making a NASCAR costume requires one trip to the local home improvement and craft stores and takes about 2 hours to complete.
Step 1: DIY NASCAR Costume Materials
Step 2: Starting Your NASCAR Costume Engine
- Using scissors, cut four long checkered flag pieces from the streamer roll. Two pieces should match the arm length of your coverall starting at the shoulders, beneath the collar. The remaining two streamer pieces will be longer, matching the length of the entire leg section. These longer pieces should start from the bottom of you underarm and end at bottom of the coverall pants.
- Using double sided tape, attach the shorter streamer pieces to the outer section of each arm on your coveralls. Cut the double sided tape as needed to coincide with the length of your checkered flag pieces.
- Using more tape, attach the longer streamer pieces to the outer left and right sides of your coveralls. The checkered flag designs should only be viewable from the sides of your costume when finished.
- Attach two or three pieces of tape to the back of your large logo decal. The tape should be placed on opposite ends and in the middle. Add more or use less as needed to secure the decal.
- Press the large decal onto the front center of your coveralls to attach it.
Step 3: Approaching the Checkered Flag for NASCAR Costumes
- Attach one piece of tape to the back of your large logos.
- Place two of the small logos on the upper left side of your coveralls. They should be displayed on the front near your shoulder and at least two inches above your large logo decal. Keep the small logos 1/2 to 1 inch of space between each other.
- Place the remaining three small logos on the right arm of your coveralls, leaving 1 or two inches of space between them. The logo decals should be sitting right on top of your checkered flag design.
- On the NASCAR applique sheet, identify the sticker that resembles the main logo to this sport.
- Remove one of the NASCAR logos and attach it to the upper right side of your coveralls.
- Add matching NASCAR appliques and a matching large logo decal to the racing helmet if desired.
Congratulations, you have crossed the finish line and made your own NASCAR style costume!
