Rich and creamy mudslides make refreshing thirst-quenchers on hot summer days. They can be enjoyed as a special anytime treat or served as an after-dinner cocktail. Mudslides are substantial enough to serve as desserts with no food accompaniments. Learning how to make a mudslide takes just a few minutes and a few ingredients.
Mudslides look and taste like complicated concoctions, but they are actually pretty simple to make. They can be prepared either by blending with ice, or by shaking and serving on the rocks. If you opt for the shaking method, it is recommended that you use a stainless steel cocktail shaker. If you cannot obtain one, you may also use a large jar (such as a spaghetti sauce jar) with a lid that screws on tightly.
To make a mudslide, you'll need to gather your ingredients, including vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream and milk or cream, mix the drink and serve. The process does not have to end there however as a number of variations to the classic mudslide recipe exist, including adding secondary flavorings like chocolate, mint and raspberry.
Easy Mudslide Recipe
Bartender Ja Nee Nisonger explains the process for creating a quick and easy mudslide. In this version, equal parts of Bailey's Irish Cream and Kahlua are added to a rocks glass, however additional flavorings and alcohol can be added as well, such as vanilla vodka. The Kahlua is added first to provide a dark color at the bottom of the drink, with the Bailey's added second, to float at the top of the glass for a layered look. She also mentions that the drink can be blended, almost creating an ice-cream-like consistency.
Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
Each mudslide will need:
- 1 ounce vodka
- 1 ounce coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua)
- 1 ounce Irish cream (such as Bailey's)
- 2 ounces milk or cream (optional)http://www.drink-recipes.org.uk/most-popular-drink-recipes/11-mudslide-drink-recipe.htm
For best results, keep all ingredients well chilled until you are ready to start making your drinks.
Step 2: Make the Mudslide
Mudslide on the Rocks
- Combine all ingredients in your cocktail shaker.
- Shake well. The more vigorously you shake, the better the drinks will turn out. The liquid should be frothy when you open your shaker to look at it.
- Pour into a glass and serve immediately.http://www.drink-recipes.org.uk/most-popular-drink-recipes/11-mudslide-drink-recipe.htm
Blended Mudslide
- Fill a glass with ice and all other ingredients.
- Pour into a blender and blend until all ice has been crushed.
- Pour the mixture back into the glass and serve.http://www.ifood.tv/recipe/frozen_mudslide
Step 3: Experiment with the Recipe
There are many different flavor and proportion variations that may be experimented with.
- If you want a less potent cocktail, add more milk or cream.
- To make shots, use 3/4 ounce of vodka and 1/4 ounce each of coffee liqueur and Irish cream (or use about 1/4 ounce of all ingredients and add milk for less potent shots.)http://www.drinkoftheweek.com/drink-recipes/mudslide/
- To make a chocolate mudslide, add 1/2 ounce creme de cacao.
- To make a raspberry mudslide, add 1/2 ounce Chambord or other raspberry liqueur.
- For a minty mudslide, add 1/2 ounce peppermint schnapps.
