Introduction
- When it comes to refreshing summer cocktails, it's hard to beat the cool minty flavor of a mojito. As one of the tastiest exports of the island of Cuba, the mojito has enjoyed an increase in popularity over the last decade and has become a prominently featured drink at restaurants, bars and cabañas throughout the Western hemisphere. But you don't have to go to a trendy bar in order to sample this Caribbean delight. All you need is a few simple ingredients and a little island spirit. Here's how:
Making a Mojito
- Place the mint leaves into the cocktail shaker.
- Cut the Lime into quarters and squeeze the juice out of three of them into the shaker. Save the fourth slice for a garnish.
] - Grind the contents of the shaker together with your muddler. This will help extract the oils from the mint leaves.
- Add in the simple syrup and the rum.
- Fill the shaker 3/4 of the way with ice and then top it off with the club soda.
- Put the top back on the shaker and shake it vigorously until the mixture is sufficiently blended.
- Pour the contents of the shaker into your Mojito glass.
- Garnish with a lime wedge, mint leaf or sugar cane stick.
- Serve and enjoy!
