Introduction
Traditionally, Valentines day is filled with flowers, chocolates and specially written paper Valentines to give to your friends. This guide will show you how to make a mailbox for all of the Valentines that you are sure to recevie.
Before you begin, you will need:
- A small box
- Masking Tape
- Plastic (Scotch) tape
- An Exacto knife
- A pair of scissors
- Wrapping paper
- Sickers, colored construction paper, etc.
Step 1: Find a box
- Locate a box that you have or will be recycling.
- Good boxes include cereal boxes, shoe boxes, or small shipping boxes.
- If you don't have a box, visit the Dairy department of your local grocery store and ask for a small box. They usually have a variety of small boxes.
Step 2: Reinforce the edges of the box with masking tape
This step ensures that the box stands up to the flurry of Valentines day activities that it will likely endure.- Cut long pieces of masking tape the same length as each edge of the box.
- Place the center of the tape on the middle of the edge.
- Fold the tape down.
- Trim the edges.
Step 3: Wrap the box in paper just like a Christmas Present.
- Locate an attractive scrap of wrapping paper.
- Birthday wrapping paper, Christmas wrapping paper or even the cartoon section of your local newspaper each work well.
- Wrap the box just like a Christmas Present. For instructions, please see How to wrap a Christmas Present
Step 4: Cut and Seal Slot
- Make sure to ask for the help of an adult for this step.
- Use an "exacto knife" to cut a hole in the top of the box.
- The thin side of the box works best so that valentines can fall in easily.
- Use clear tape to seal the edges of the paper to the box.
Step 5: Decorate the Valentines mailbox to make it special.
The last step makes your Valentines mailbox special and unique. Some decorating ideas:
- Use stickers to make your box shine
- Use glitter glue to write special messages on the wrapping paper
- Cut shapes such as hearts and stars out of construction paper and attach with paper glue
