This CNN clip briefly explains how the Keyboard Cat internet phenomenon started and why it's become so popular. The images included in this video should also be able to help you determine the color shirt to wear and the right look for your Halloween costume as the Keyboard Cat as well.
Step 1: Cat's Ears
To be a cat you must look like a cat, and the easiest way to do that is with a cat-ear headband. However, cat-ear earmuffs will also work if you can find them. If you can't locate a headband, you can also make one by cutting the ears out of felt or construction paper and attaching them to a regular headband. If you want to go all out, you can also wear a cat's nose and whiskers or just paint your nose black or orange.
Step 2: Light Blue Shirt
Getting a shirt that's just the right color is very important. Also, make sure it's short sleeved. If you don't mind the lack of movement, you could also wear your elbows inside the shirt to shorten your arms and make them look more like paws. Another option is to spend a few dollars to make your costume a little more obvious by getting the phrase "Keyboard Cat" printed in white letters on the front of the shirt.
Step 3: The Keyboard
The keyboard is the most important part of the costume. If at all possible, it's best to carry around a real one that actually works. Miniature models that still play a couple of octaves are often available on eBay and are much easier to carry.
