Introduction
A Dirty Martini is an acquired taste and is very popular. The martini is made from either gin or vodka with a mixer that gives it a salty taste. Dirty Martini's are usually made by mixing together the alcohol of your choice and olive brine out of a jar of olives. However, olives tend to lose their flavor when brine has been removed from the jar and eventually are wasted. The solution is to use an aftermarket brine that tastes equally as good if not better. -

So what's the secret?
The secret is Dirty Sue "The Original Dirty Martini Mix, a replacement for olive brine. The taste is quite exquisite and it is a hint better then original olive brine. Once mixed with your choice of vodka or gin, it will give your dirty martini a brownish/green color. The taste is tangy and salty, which is sometimes a welcome treat after drinking sweet beverages on a regular basis. -
Lets do it!
Requirements:- Gin or Vodka
- Stainless steel martini shaker
- Dirty Sue mix
- Ice
- Martini Olives (Available at grocery stores and liquor stores)
- Standard shot glass
The best method to enjoy this martini is to make it small. First, fill the martini shaker with about a half a cup of ice. Second, add one shot glass full of either vodka or gin. Third, (this will vary upon your taste) add a half shot glass or less of Dirty Sue. Last but not least, drop one martini olive in the shaker. Shake vigorously, pour in a martini glass, and enjoy (note: more olives may be added to the martini glass if you prefer/enjoy them).

Questions:
Why the stainless tell shaker? Stainless steel has a quality which is hard to describe, it somehow chills the alcohol faster then a glass shaker and or plastic shaker. The taste as a result is much better and the sounds while shaking are a party favorite for sure. Why a small martini and not a full size? The Dirty Martini tastes best when it is chilled. The larger the drink, in volume, the longer it will sit and warm up. The smaller the drink, the less time it has to warm up; therefore making for a great sip every time.
Which alcohol is best? Quite honestly it is a matter of taste. Vodka is quite flavorful and warm where as Gin has hints of flavors added to it when it is fermented. Try both and make the final decision.
Where to get Dirty Sue? Dirty Sue is available at many liquor stores but the best deal is probably had on line. Amazon.com has a fantastic deal on a 4 pack.

After writing about how to make this martini I naturally decided to have one or two. However, I wanted to 'spice' things up a bit. Here is another quick recipe for a killer Dirty Sue:
1. Use directions above, but a little less of the Dirt Sue Mix.
2. Add one-two drops of Tabasco sauce - Just for a hint of spice.
3. Add one-two drops of RealLemon - For tart flavor.
4. Mix it all up and enjoy over ice or straight up.
