Introduction

Are you in charge of planning a community or church Christmas play this holiday season? Are you trying to brainstorm costume ideas? If so, this guide will direct you on how to make a Christmas tree costume. While their are many ways to make a Christmas tree costume, the cardboard cutouts on this page are quick and easy to assemble.

Step 1: What You Will Need

  • The following supplies are needed to make your own Christmas tree costume:
  • 2 large cardboard boxes
  • 1 thick piece of poster board, preferably silver
  • Black marker
  • Green acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Two shoe boxes, with lids
  • Wrapping paper
  • Christmas bows
  • Glue
  • Christmas Ornaments
  • Garland
  • Green tights or sweat pants
  • Green shirt
  • Silver glitter

Step 2: Make the Costume

To make the costume, you will need to:

  1. Use the black marker to draw the outline of a Christmas tree on one of the cardboard boxes (this will extend from your shoulders, to just below your knees, so the size should be comparative)
  2. Cut around the outline
  3. Use the other piece of cardboard to make a duplicate cutout
  4. Cut off the top part of each cut-out, so the tree is no longer pointed. You will be making a star to go around your head as the top part of the tree
  5. Paint both sides of each cardboard box with the green acrylic paint, letting it dry. Paint a second coat, until you reach the desired green color.
  6. Decorate the tree, using the glue to attach the garland, ornaments and bows
  7. Cut a hole in the lid of each shoe box that is large enough for your feet to fit through. You will be using these as shoes later on,
  8. Put the lids on the shoe boxes, and use the Christmas wrapping paper to wrap them like regular presents. Make sure you wrap around the hole through so you can still put your feet through the lids.
  9. Put on the sweat shirt and sweat pants
  10. Have someone help you glue the cardboard cutouts onto the front and back of the sweat shirt, starting at the collar

Step 3: Make the Star

  • To make the star that will be used for the top of the Christmas tree:
  1. Using the black marker, draw a star on the silver poster board. Make sure the star is at least 18 inches in diameter. You will be cutting out a circle in the center of the star to place your head, so make sure it is bigger than your head so it will still retain the shape of a star.
  2. Cut out the star.
  3. Use the marker to draw a circle in the center of the star that fits the shape of your head.
  4. Cut out the circle.
  5. Decorate the star with the glitter glue.
  6. Affix the star to your face
