Introduction
The apple cider adds depth and character to this drink. The Chimayo cocktail was created by Arturo Jaramillo, owner of the Rancho de Chimayó restaurant in Chimayó, New Mexico in 1965. It will take you about 10 minutes to assemble. -
Step 1: What You Need
- 2 oz sparkling cider, chilled
- 1 ½ oz tequilla
- ½ oz (1.5 tsp) fresh lemon juice
- ¼ oz (1.5 tsp) [[crème de cassis]]
- Ice
- Martini glass
- Cocktail shaker
- 1 apple slice
Step 1: Mix the Drink
After getting all of your ingredients together, take your cocktail glass and place in freezer. You will then want to begin building your cocktail.- Put all of your ingredients into the cocktail shaker, add your ice, then cover.
- Shake up your cocktail. Do this very gently, as shaking too hard will agitate the bubbles.
- Strain the drink into your martini glass.
- Garnish the edge of your cocktail with the apple slice, and serve
Step 3: About Apples
If you're going to be serving the Chimayos at a party, you'll want to prepare ahead of time. Apples will discolor if sliced and left exposed to air. You can prevent the discoloration by placing the apple slices in a bowl of ice water to which 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice has been added. Drain and pat dry before using to garnish the drink.
