Would you like to learn how to make a Candy Cane Martini? A Candy Cane Martini is a great way to sweeten up a traditional martini for the holidays. Presented in a martini glass with a Christmas-themed sugar-coated rim, these are great drinks to serve at holiday parties.
Although recipes vary, Candy Cane Martinis ingredients include vanilla vodka, grenadine, white chocolate liqueur, half and half cream and peppermint schnapps. You'll need a martini shaker and enough ice to fill it half-way. Before filling the glasses, the rim of the martini glass is dipped into grenadine so that it can be lined with red, white or green sugar. You can purchase colored sugar, or make your own. To make homemade colored sugar, place about a tablespoon of sugar in a small bowl. Add a few drops of food coloring and stir with a toothpick until you create the color you desire. You can also substitute crushed candy canes for the sugar to provide a more intense candy cane experience.
Pour the Candy Cane Martinis into glass and garnish with a candy cane for festive look. This page provides instructions on how you can make your own Candy Cane Martini at home.
How to Use Leftover Candy Canes
This video from Howcast features a tutorial on how to make a Candy Cane Martini. The video also provides other great tips on how to use candy canes that are leftover from the holidays. Some of the ideas in this video include making candy cane straws, using crushed candy canes and white chocolate to make candy bark and making melted candy cane hearts.
Step 1: What You'll Need
- Ingredients:
- Grenadine syrup to line the rim of the glass
- Colored Sugar (red or green made by adding food coloring drops to sugar)
- Peppermint Schnapps
- Vanilla Vodka
- Half and half cream
- Martini glass
- Martini shaker
- Mini candy cane for garnish
- Enough ice to fill the shaker half-way
Step 2: Preparing the Candy Cane Martini
Start by laying out two small plates. In one dish, drizzle a puddle of grenadine syrup and sprinkle the colored sugar on the other. Colored sugar is made by adding a few drops of food coloring into about a tablespoon of sugar. Stir the sugar and the food coloring with a toothpick until you create the desired color. If you prefer a double candy cane flavor, you can use finely crushed candy cane instead of sugar. Take the martini glass and dip the rim into the syrup to create a base for the sugar to stick to. Next, dip the grenadine rimmed glass into the sugar so that it creates a nice sugar coated rim.
Next, fill the martini shaker with ice. Add the vanilla vodka, peppermint schnapps and liqueur. After giving it a good shake, add the half and half cream. Make sure you add the half and half separately, if you shake the mixture with the cream it will create an unwanted frothy texture.
Step 3: Serving Candy Cane Martinis
After mixing the ingredients for the Candy Cane Martini, pour it into the sugar-rimmed glasses. Some like to drizzle a small amount of grenadine inside the martini glass before pouring the martini for an added bit of flavor. After pouring the Candy Cane Martini into the glass, garnish the drink with a small candy cane either placed in the glass like a stirrer, or hang it off the rim of the glass.
