Smoking out of a water pipe, or bong, allows you to take larger tokes than with an ordinary pipe or a joint. The water cools off the smoke, making it easier on your throat and lungs. If you don't live near a head shop, it can be difficult to purchase a bong. Even if you do have access to a smoking accessory store, water pipes can get expensive. If buying a bong is not an option, you may assemble one quickly and easily with a few parts found around the house. To learn to build one at home, just read this guide on how to make a bong.
Step 1: What you Need
You probably won't need to make any special trips to the store to get the materials you need to make a bong at home. Most of these items can be found at home. If you are missing anything, just take a quick trip to the nearest grocery store or drug store to grab what you need. You won't have to spend more than a few dollars, most likely. Here are the materials you need to get started:
- A plastic 2-liter bottle
- A pen
- A stem with bowl (preferably glass, but you can create these using plumbing parts, or even aluminum foil, as well)
- Electrical tape
Step 2: Making the Bong
First, punch two holes in the bottle with your pen. Be careful doing this -- even though an ordinary pen may not seem very sharp, it is very possible to hurt yourself if you poke yourself too hard. Be sure to hold the bottle at a distance, and do not punch towards your body or face with the pen. One hole should be about 1/3 of the way up the bottle on the front (this is where the stem will go), the other about 1/2 way up on the back of the bottle (this is your carb). Insert your stem into the lower hole, and then seal with tape to prevent any leakage of air.
Step 3: Smoke
- Pour water into the bong
- Fill the bowl with your smoking substance of choice
- Gripping the bong, place your thumb over the carb
- Light the bowl
- Inhale, and remove thumb from the carb to clear the bong
