Mahalo's cooking expert Scott Aaronson shows you how to use your mandoline slicer to make julienne cuts from a carrot.
What You'll Need
- Carrot
- Mandoline
- Cutting Board
Step 1: Prepare the Carrot
Peel the carrot.
- Put the carrot in the guard so that it is parallel to the body of the mandoline. If you don't have a guard, be sure to use a mitt or glove to protect your hand from the blade.
Step 2: Prepare the Mandoline
Place the julienne blade on your mandoline.
- Dial down the blade thickness to be between 1/4 in to 1/2 inch.
- Set up the mandoline so it's standing at the correct angle.
Step 3: Cut the Carrot
Put the guard and carrot at the top of the mandoline.
- Push the guard down the blade with steady force.
- Use the carrot julienne slices as a garnish in a meal.
