Introduction
- On my honor, I will try....The opening phrase of the Girl Scout Promise has been recited by millions of girls through the years. These days, it is easier than ever to join the organization...as a girl, as an adult, or as a lifetime member.
Step 1: To Join a Troop
- You can become a Girl Scout at anytime from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Age-appropriate troops and activities abound.
- Find a Girl Scout Council near you. You can look online or ask your parents, teachers, and neighbors.
- Get in touch with the council. They can fill you in on which troops and group are available in your area.
- If you are moving abroad, you can find out about opportunities at (800) 247-8319 or at (212) 852-8618.
- Joining a troop may be as simple as
- Committing to the Girl Scout Promise and Laws
- Paying a small yearly fee.
Step 3: To Attend Camp
- You can choose
- Day camp
- Overnight camp
- Check with your local council to find a Girl Scout Camp near you.
Step 4: To Cultivate Career and Life Skills
- Are you into sports? Music or dance? Girl Scout interest groups last from one to six months and offer sessions on topics such as
- Careers
- Sports (Soccer, tennis, softball, and more)
- Performing arts (theatre, dance, music)
- Life skills (Planning, money management, and more)
- Girl Scout interest groups can give you lots of information about things you might not be learning at school.
Step 5: Adult and Lifelong Memberships
- If you want to help enrich young girls' lives, you can join as an adult:
- Mentor young girls
- Speak at Girl Scout events
- Volunteer in a troop or interest group
- Lend support to your local council office
- To join
- Look for a local council online.
- Contact that council, or phone (800) 478-7248.
- Lifetime Memberships are for you if you believe in the Girl Scout mission and are either 18 years old or a high school graduate.
Joining is simple:
- Download the membership form (PDF format).
- Send the form, along with the fee to your local council or to Girl Scout Headquarters.
