Introduction
Microsoft has a lot of features that make it interesting and thus a lot of Mac users want to install it on their systems. Apple has a utility known as BootCamp which will installs Windows on a MAC. Step 1: Back Up Your Data
The first step in this process is to back up all of your data, multiple times if necessary. It is essential to understand that there is a hardware modification being performed and thus data loss is a possibility. Once the back up has been completed your only other requirement is to have your Windows 7 DVD available to begin the installation. -
Step 2: Run Bootcamp to Install Windows 7
- Start the Boot Camp Assistant on your MAC and follow the self explanatory directions. The MAC will then prompt you to insert your Windows 7 DVD and reboot the system. However there is a very good chance that the system will error out with the following error after the reboot process
- Select CD-ROM Boot Type
- 1.
- 2.
This simply means that the computer does not know how to boot from the DVD. The simple reason for this is that Microsoft now has their own version of the EFI (Apple's Built in BIOS) and Apple has their own version which do not seem to cooperate with each other.
If you are experiencing this error, proceed to step 3

Step 3: Error Fix and Requirements
This must be done in a Windows environment:- Using any DVD image tool create an ISO file of your Windows 7 DVD
- Create 3 folders c:\7iso c:\7exe c:\7dvd
- Download oscdimg.exe file and put into c:\7exe
- Take your Windows 7 ISO file and copy it into c:\7iso and unzip it to the same folder (use any compression tool such as winrar or 7zip)
- Move or Delete the actual .iso file that you copied in out of c:\7iso
- Open a command prompt and get to the c:\7exe directory
- Type the following command: oscdimg.exe -n -m -bc:\7iso\boot\etfsboot.com c:\7iso c:\7dvd\7dvd.iso
- A new ISO file will now reside in c:\7dvd\7dvd.iso and should be burned to a DVD using any image burning software.
At this stage you have successfully burned your newly created ISO file onto a blank DVD and you are ready to start the Bootcamp assistant yet again. The steps are quite simple:- Start Bootcamp Assistant and follow directions.
- Insert the new DVD that you created.
- Reboot your system and install Windows 7 x64
Step 4: Final Steps
Once the installation has completed you should immediately follow these steps:- Run Windows Update and get all of the latest updates from Microsoft for Windows 7
- Use your Mac OS X DVD (Snow Leopard HIGHLY Recommended) to install drivers for your MAC hardware within Windows.
- Secure your system so it can not be harmed by malware on the internet.
- Restore your data and install the applications you require.
Conclusion:
Windows 7 X64 is a robust operating system which utilizes the high end MAC Pro hardware to provide a great and fast system. The steps above are necessary for most, if not all, users of Apple's hardware due to the incompatibility of the systems proprietary booting process. The installation is not as complicated as it may seem, the process is quite simple as long as the steps are followed properly.
