Introduction
- The motherboard is the circuit board of a computer. Before installing a motherboard, make sure you choose one appropriate for the computer.
Step 1: Choosing a Motherboard
- It's important that you choose a motherboard that supports the specifications of your computer or the computer you plan to build, if you are constructing one yourself. Motherboards come in several different price ranges, depending on their abilities and specifications. A cheap motherboard might be adequate if you only want a basic computer, but if you want the computer to perform advanced tasks or display advanced graphics, you will need a more expensive motherboard. These are some things to take into consideration when choosing a motherboard:
- Does it support one or several USB ports?
- What processor, memory, case etc does the motherboard support?
- Does the motherboard include a video card? This will mean you don't have to purchase an additional one, unless you want the computer to display complex graphics.
Step 2: Installing a Motherboard
- After purchasing the appropriate motherboard for your needs, it's time to install it. Make sure you are familiar with how to protect yourself against static electricity before beginning the installation.
- First, install the microprocessor chip on its appropriate location on the motherboard.
- Next, install the heat sink according to its manual.
- Finally, install the RAM memory.
- Connect the motherboard's face plate with the case by the screws that came with the case.
- Be careful not to damage the wires of the motherboard, as they are fragile.
- Install a power supply, if the motherboard did not come with one.
- Connect the power to the motherboard.
- After installing the motherboard, it's time to install other components to it, such as the hard drive and disk drive. Follow the instructions for each component.
