Introduction
- MySpace allows you to form informal groups of people based on shared interests or professional relationships. The groups can range from Fans of U2 to MySpace Photographers; there are well over a million groups on the site. Sometimes users want to keep group memberships a secret, for a variety of reasons. If you are a MySpace member who wants to keep your group affiliations private, read on.
Step 1: Access Your Account Settings
- The following steps will get you to the Account Settings page:
- Log into MySpace using your User ID and Password.
- On the top right side of the page is a box that reads "My Account." Click on that box.
- The next page is a screen that allows you to change your contact information. You also have the option to edit your password, privacy, spam settings and other settings. On the far right is a "Miscellaneous" link. Click on that link.
Step 2: Adjust Your Group Settings
- The first choice on the "Miscellaneous" settings page is "Groups." Remove the check mark from the "Display Groups on Profile" box, and your group affiliations will be hidden. Click "Save All Changes."
Step 3: Examine Other Options
- While you're on the "Settings" page, you should check the other account settings to see if there's anything else you should change. You have the option, for example, to hide your date of birth, allowing photos to be shared, allowing comments or adding an away message.
Step 4: Check Your Profile
- Once you've finished making the appropriate changes, return to your profile page by mousing over "Profile," then selecting "My Profile" from the drop-down box. Note whether or not your groups are hidden; if they aren't, return to your Account Settings and make sure that the "Display Groups" box is unchecked.
