This page tells you how to hack an iPhone (jailbreak an iPhone) so that you can run 3rd party applications on it. February 8 2010: Updated for iPhone 3.1.3. This page is updated often because new hacks are needed with each iTunes update.
The iPhone is superior to some other phones in that you don't have to unlock root access and erase all the preinstalled applications in order to run 3rd party applications on the iPhone. Instead, all you have to do is what is called jailbreaking an iPhone.
An iPhone jailbreak allows 3rd party applications to run on the iPhone. It also frees the iPhone of Steve Jobs' restrictions on customization, texting privacy, and multitasking capabilities. This does not erase the data on your phone. It does not mess up the applications that come installed on your phone, either. It does void the warranty on your iPhone, though. If anything goes wrong and your iPhone is jailbroken, then Apple Computer won't help you.http://thebigboss.org/why-jailbreak-iphone/http://www.appleiphonereview.com/iphone-tutorials/iphone-jailbreak/
There are many applications that will only run on an iPhone after you jailbreak it. For a sample of what is available, click on this number.http://cydia.saurik.com/store/ To find more, search using the keywords iPhone Jailbreak Applications.
In order to jailbreak your iPhone, you will be downloading and installing several hacking programs. Keep these hacking programs toggled off when you are not using them. Always remove your phone from your computer if you leave your computer for any amount of time. Other hackers can use some hacking programs to access your phone and ruin it or use it to send spam.http://justanotheriphoneblog.com/wordpress/iphone-tips/how-to-change-the-iphones-root-password
Step 1: Prepare to Hack an iPhone
There are three programs you will need to download first, before you can hack your iPhone.
Sn0wbreeze is a hacking program developed by Taimur Asad. In expert mode it can do some very powerful things to iPhones and iPods. It has a simple mode though for beginner hackers who don't know yet which utilities need to be loaded onto the iPhone in order to jailbreak it and run 3rd party programs.
Sn0wbreeze can jailbreak iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS. So far, Sn0wbreeze cannot jailbreak iPhone MC. If you have an iPhone MC, then try blackra1nhttp://blackra1n.com/ or redsn0w.http://redsn0w.com/ Using these is similar to using Sn0wbreeze.
Sn0wbreeze is fully compatible to work with all Windows operating systems including Windows XP, Windows 7 and Vista. If you have a MacIntosh Computer, then try redsn0w.http://redsn0w.com/
To download Sn0wbreeze (and see much more documentation if you want), click on this number.http://www.redmondpie.com/sn0wbreeze-3.1.3-v1.5-to-jailbreak-iphone-3.1.3/ On that same page, follow the download links to get:
- iPhone OS 3.1.3 firmware for iPhone
- iTunes 9.0.3 for Windows and Mac
- .NET Framework 3.5.
- --Put these two files on your desktop.
Also at this point, connect your iPhone to your computer and update your iTunes at Apple's iTunes website. Now, plug your iPhone into your computer and synchronize so that your computer backs up all your music, contacts, photos, settings and programs. Just in case you brick your iPhone (make it useless like a brick).
Step 2: Use Sn0wbreeze to Hack an iPhone
With your iPhone still connected to your computer:
- Open up Sn0wbreeze.
- Choose Simple Mode.
- Sn0wbreeze asks you to browse for your .ipsw file.
- Click the browse button.
- Browse to your desktop
- Find the OS 3.1.2 firmware for iPhone that you just downloaded in Step 1.
- Select the version of iPhone OS 3.1.2 that has the same name as your phone.
- Sn0wbreeze verifies the file and gives you the small Done! screen.
- Click on the blue arrow or next to continue.
- Sn0wbreeze asks, "Do you want to activate your iPhone?”
- Click on No if you already have an iPhone officially supported phone carrier like AT&T.
- Click on Yes if you want to use a phone carrier not officially supported by iPhone.
- Click start.
- Sn0wbreeze creates a custom .ipsw restore file for your iPhone.
- Sn0wbreeze gives you the huge Done! screen.
- In the iTunes sidebar on your computer, click on your phone.
- While holding down the "shift" button on your computer, click on restore in the iTunes window on your computer. (Make sure and click on restore and not the other choice.)
- On your computer, iTunes asks you to select the location of your downloaded custom firmware.
- Select the custom .ipsw file that Sn0wbreeze made for you.
- (If you need help finding the custom .ipsw file, have a look at the video featured on this page.)
- click on “Open”.
- You can watch the progress bar on your iPhone as iTunes installs the custom .ipsw file for you.
- Your iPhone will restart automatically once this installation is done.
- Congratulations on jailbreaking your iPhone!
Step 3: Change the Mobile and Root iPhone Passwords
After jailbreaking an iPhone it is critical to change the phone's mobile and root passwords. If you don't and you use hacking programs for anything, then other hackers can gain root access to the phone and really mess it up -- or use it to send spam if they want to. Even if you don't use hacking programs, other applications might have security holes. You are better off safe than sorry.
The method for changing iPhone mobile and root passwords spelled out here requires a root iPhone app called MobileTerminal. To get it, click on this number.http://cydia.saurik.com/store/ Now that your iPhone hack is done, you can go get that application and install it.
To change the iPhone passwords with MobileTerminal installed on your iPhone:
- The phone prompts iPhoneName: ~ Mobile$
- Enter passwd
- It asks you for the old mobile password.
- Enter alpine
- It asks you for the new password.
- Enter whatever new password you want to use. You will not see what you are typing, and this is normal.
- It asks you again for the new password.
- Enter your new password again.
- The phone returns to the prompt Mobile$
- Enter login root
- It asks you for the old root password.
- Enter alpine
- Enter passwd
- It prompts you again for the old root password.
- Enter alpine
- It asks you for the new password.
- Enter whatever new password you want to use. You will not see what you are typing, and this is normal.
- It asks you again for the new password.
- Enter your new password again.http://justanotheriphoneblog.com/wordpress/iphone-tips/how-to-change-the-iphones-root-password
