Introduction
First you have to wash your hair. You can either wash your hair with a residue free shampoo or make a solution at home. The home solution is made by mixing 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 quart water. Wash your hair with one of these the day you want to start your dreads. Wait for your hair to dry.
This process only requires a comb, rubber bands, and dreadlock styling wax, beeswax or pomade. Once you have these supplies you are ready to begin. -
Step 1:Preparing Your Hair

Step 2:Forming the Dreads ~ Backcombing
Take about 1 square inch portion of hair or any amount of hair your choose, the portion amount depends on how think you want your dreads, and twist it tightly. You can pin the rest of your hair back if it is interfering with this process. Once you have that twisted clump of hair, start back combing it. The purpose of this is to tangle the hair. After you have it well tangled, add a bit of your wax substance, and twist it again. Once you have twisted and waxed the whole lock of hair, tie the end of it with the rubber band. It is fine if there is some hair hanging out at the end of the lock. Continue until full head is completed. -
