When you're cooking your meat on the grill, it makes sense to cook the rest of the meal on the grill as well. Grilled potatoes are the perfect accompaniment to grilled meat. You can season them as you like, to make sure they'll go well with the rest of the meal.
Ingredients Needed for Grilled Potatoes
Lay out the ingredients before you begin to cook.
- Potatoes
- Marinade, sauce or oil to keep the potatoes moist. Italian dressing works well.
- Salt or pepper to taste
Cook the Potatoes Directly on the Grill
This gives you a nicely seared potato, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. You'll need a vegetable tray that sits on the grill to prevent the slices from falling through.
- Parboil the potatoes for 10 minutes.
- Slice the potatoes into slices that are 1/2 inch thick.
- Brush the potatoes with your choice of marinade, sauce, or dressing on both sides.
- Grill the potatoes for 4-8 minutes a side, until tender when pierced with a fork.
Cook the Potatoes in Foil
This method allows the potatoes to steam cook on the grill.
- Cut the 3/4 of a pound of potatoes into thin slices or one inch chunks.
- Toss the potatoes with the 1/4 cup of marinade, oil, or dressing.
- Meanwhile, measure out three 20-inch-long sheets of 12-inch-wide foil
- Overlap two of the sheets in a cross pattern.
- Place the seasoned potatoes in the middle of the cross and pat them down into a squares about 1-1/2 inches thick
- Fold the ends of the foil in and wrap the potatoes tightly.
- Wrap the third piece of foil around the potato package.
- Grill for 40-50 minutes, turning every 5-10 minutes to prevent the potatoes from burning.
